Roof work, explained before you buy it
What each job costs, what the regulations actually say, and where the money gets wasted. Read first, quote second.

in short
AltHome's roofing work across Kerry, Cork and Limerick covers attic conversions, attic insulation and ladders, roof windows, and the repair of slate, tile and flat roofs, chimneys, valleys, gutters, fascias and soffits, including storm damage. Each page explains what the job involves, what drives the price and which regulations apply, so you can judge a quote before you accept one.

How a roof connects to the rest of the house
A roof problem rarely stays on the roof. The damp patch on the chimney breast is an outside problem read from indoors. The stained render under a window is a gutter that has been blocked for two winters. The crack across the ceiling is a valley that failed.
So every page here follows the job inward. It tells you what the work involves, what it costs and when it is worth doing, then it points at the job it creates next door. That is the part most roofing pages leave out.
Where we stop
We do not chase emergency call outs. If water is coming in tonight you want a roofer on the roof, not a guide. These pages are for the decision you make before that, or the week after it.

Roofing: common questions
Written by the AltHome crew. Last reviewed September 2026.
How do I know if my roof needs repair or replacement?
A few slipped slates, a loose ridge or a failed flashing on an otherwise sound roof is a repair. Slates slipping all over, brittle or missing felt, and repairs that keep failing in new places point to a strip and relay.
When is the best time for roof work in Ireland?
Planned roofing is best from spring to early autumn. An autumn check between September and November catches small faults before the winter storms.
What should I do if my roof is damaged in a storm?
Keep clear of wet ceilings, photograph the damage, tell your insurer and have the roof made safe. In Kerry our emergency repairs service covers this.
