Storm damage repair
The roof made safe and watertight after a storm, then repaired properly, with photos and a written report for your insurer.
in short
AltHome repairs storm damaged roofs across Kerry, Cork and Limerick in two stages: first the roof is made safe, with loose material taken down and open areas covered with secured sheeting, then the permanent repair is done in settled weather with matched materials. We photograph the damage before touching it and give an itemised written report for your insurer.
what decides it
Safe and dry first, then the proper repair
After a named storm the calls come in all at once: slates and ridge tiles blown off, flashings torn, gutters ripped away, sometimes a tree limb through the roof. The first job is never the full repair. It is making the house safe and keeping more water out: anything loose that could fall is taken down, and open areas are covered with secured tarpaulin or temporary sheeting that will not lift in the next gust. That buys time to do the proper repair in decent weather rather than in a rush. The proper repair then follows the same standard as any roof work: slates and tiles matched, ridges rebedded or dry fixed, flashings recut and dressed, and felt and battens replaced where they have been exposed to the weather. For insurance, evidence matters. We photograph the damage before anything is touched, record what we found and what caused it, and give you a written, itemised report and quote you can send straight to your insurer. Wind often exposes weaknesses that were already there, such as corroded nails or perished mortar, and we note those separately and honestly, because insurers check and it protects your claim to have it stated plainly.
What to do straight away
Stay off the roof and away from anything loose. Photograph the damage from the ground and from inside, move valuables away from leaks and catch water in buckets. If water is near lights or sockets, switch that circuit off. Then ring us, and ring your insurer to open a claim.

asked
Storm damage repair: common questions
Will my insurance cover storm damage?
Many home policies cover damage caused by storms, but conditions differ and wear and tear is usually excluded. We give you photos and a written report, and your insurer decides the claim.
How fast can you come out?
After a big storm, making houses safe comes first, and we prioritise where water is coming in. The permanent repair is scheduled once the weather allows.
Can I claim for the temporary repair?
Usually the cost of making the property safe and preventing further damage is part of a claim, but check your policy. We invoice the temporary work separately so it is clear.
What should I do after storm damage to my roof?
Stay out from under any wet or bulging ceiling, photograph the damage from the ground, tell your insurer, and have the roof made safe to stop more water getting in. Keep receipts for the temporary work. Our emergency repairs page covers the first hour in detail.
Does home insurance cover storm damage in Ireland?
Most Irish home policies cover storm damage, but not wear and tear or a roof that was already failing. That is why the photos and report showing the storm as the cause matter. Check your own policy and excess.
